The second Electric Vehicle Deloitte observatory
Start Date: 1 March, 2011
End Date: 1 March, 2011
At the Assolombarda Auditorium of Milan, on March 1, 2011, was held the conference “E-Car great demand, adequate supply?” organized by Assolombarda, Unindustria and in collaboration with Deloitte.
During the meeting, Marco Martina – Head of Automotive Deloitte Consulting – presented the second electric vehicle Deloitte observatory showing a preview of the results of the “Global e-Vehicle Survey” by Deloitte, an international study (to be completed and submitted in the next months) that describes the characteristics and trends in demand for electric cars in major automotive markets.
The research has been conducted by Deloitte Global through specific questionnaires submitted to a panel of 4,760 European motorists from 28 January 2011 to 10 February 2011. The European countries involved are Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey and UK.
The previous “New Era ” Deloitte research (presented at the 1st Electric Vehicle Deloitte observatory in November 2009) showed a profile of potential clients still poorly informed and prepared on the subject. The new research show a potential customer more prepared and able to highlight the essential needs for future electric vehicle: the easiness and the cost of charging, along with autonomy are for more than 80% of motorists very important elements to consider in purchasing / renting an e-car.
The research results emphasize that the market is not yet able to meet the expectations of the great majority sample of respondents in terms of autonomy and recharge times.
The new Deloitte research also shows that the appeal of electric vehicles is heavily dependent on traditional fuel prices and the fuel consumption of combustion vehicles: if the gasoline / diesel vehicles would be able to reach 3 liters per 100 km, 73% of those surveyed would be less inclined to consider electric vehicles. Moreover 55% of those interested in electric vehicles would be more inclined to consider the purchase of electric vehicles if gasoline prices increase to 1.80 euro per liter.
